Artist's Comments

reposting this because i have a better picture!

H'OKAY. so this is the gist of what message i was going for:

"Just as wars of today are fought over oil, so the wars of the future will be fought over water"
The three gas masked people represent the countries that become soulless from greed and selfishness and turn to war to get what they want. That's why they're wearing gas masks which show no human emotion whatsoever and make people look like monsters.

They also represent the war itself with their dirty colours and guns. The uniform and geometric patterns on their cloaks resemble the lack of emotion, empathy and mercy in war.

The clouded background is a dauntingly thick wall of pollution and it symbolizes the pollution we put into our water everyday.

The girl is the consequence, she's whats happening NOW to the innocents because we aren't conserving water. She's what will happen if the wars of the future become the wars of today. Her cloak is such bright colours to grab your attention, to make you look at the consequence. Her patterns were made to contrast that of the gas masked figures and to be loose and organic like water itself.

The red dye/blood running into the water is there to show the deaths that happen everyday and to represent the loss of life in the future if we dont get this water crisis under control.

The water flows away to show how over time we are losing it.

THATS ABOUT IT.
Over the course of the night we raised $1300 dollars for charity: water

interesting mix between contemporary politique
and old klimpt style, i love the color work and part of the composition, but i feel that the weekest part of this drawing if the lack of variety of size from the character, if you look at the medecine from klimt you can see that he play a lot with volume with is character. that would give you a differant impact and give more importance to some character .

but over all i love this work

Ah yes, I see what you're saying. I must keep that in mind for the next time I paint, thank you! I'm also glad you picked up on the klimt style. That means I was able to portray it at least amateurishly well while still keeping a bit of myself intact.

Thanks again!

ahhh the use of patterns within colors.
like der kuss
I adore the patterns and shapes you used - how the blanketed girl has the warm hues and free, swirling designs while the masked figures have the dark dirty greens and the very geometric shapes. it leaves room for interpretation. the smudged green background behind the masked figures, like foggy poisoned air. and the flowing blue of the water... perfect.

this is inspiring and makes you think.

I still love this pic...

Please, call me Piggy...

Yeah! the artist, Gustav Klimt, was my inspiration. I was told to do it in his style, but I also wanted to keep a little of myself as well.
I'm extra glad that you picked up on the difference between the girl and the masked figures! I'll explain my choices when I upload the better photo c:
And the air is supposed to be polluted, you're a clever one :P haha I used the cloudy background from wal-mart photos for my inspiration there

I'm glad you like it c:
